'Pop-Up' Adelaide
Pop-Up bars have been all the rage this year, especially during Mad March when the Festival State lives up to it's name. With the Fringe, Adelaide Festival and Clipsal 500 jam packed into just a couple of weeks, the trend of outdoor pop-up-bars has had a huge impact on Adelaide and has improved night life immensely.
What is a 'pop-up-bar' you may ask? A pop-up-bar is an contemporary trend in which space is used effectively to create a place of meaning and socialisation. The concept is temporary, allowing a bar to 'pop-up' with a short-term lease and liquor license (Insieme Esclusivo 2012).
With the amendment to the Liquor Licensing Bill (Small Venue license) in 2012, a new category of liquor license was created for small venues. This now makes it easier for smaller businesses to set up venues, providing more flexible and low-cost liquor licenses (Attorney General's Department 2013 & Attorney General's Department 2012).
Pop up bars have been hugely successful in Adelaide as seen by quirky-themed examples such as Little Miss Mexico, Arcade Lane, Barrio and The Depot all operating in conjunction with the Fringe Festival.

Pop-up-bars aren't the only pop-up craze taking over Adelaide, pop-up coffee shops also seem to be a hit with various coffee carts and 'hole-in-the-wall type business temporarily open for trading in the city.
Another slightly different 'pop-up' event is the Opel Moonlight Cinema operating in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens during the summer months. This was a huge hit with the event boasting over 10,500 likes on Facebook and almost 700 followers on instagram! Popular, huh?
