With the number of empty buildings and vacant shops destined for a date with the demolishers, it is evident why it is so important to renew urban spaces and restore meaning to them once again. Considering this, the revitalisation of Eastern Jetty Road Glenelg is now part of the Renew Adelaide initiative.

Renew Adelaide is a non-for-profit organisation that is working on revitalising and renewing urban areas. This initiative creates places of meaning whilst keeping empty spaces alive. Their aim is to create a vibrant city, benefiting not only property owners and creative industries but also, benefiting the community with increased social and economic activity (Renew Adelaide 2013 & ABC News 2010).

The benefits of Revitalising Eastern Jetty Road Glenelg are vast and the introduction of a new place to socialise will be of great assistance. According to SGS (2012), an australian economics and planning company, as well as Renew Adelaide (2013) urban renewal has a huge impact on community welfare. Some of the benefits of reviving urban spaces are as follows;

- Spicing up cities, making them more interesting and liveable
- Increasing local tourism and activity in the area
- Increasing economic turnover in the area
- Creating new jobs
- Greater interest from potential future commercial tenants/lifelong tenancy
- Increases social activity

By looking at the potential benefits an area can gain simply from revitalisation, it would be silly not to turn vacant spaces into meaningful and lively places again as "no one benefits from empty shops" (Creative Partnerships Australia 2010).
